Meißel gehörten mit zu den frühesten Metallwerkzeugen in Ägypten. Vorwiegend dienten sie der Bearbeitung unterschiedlichster Rohstoffe wie Holz, Stein etc. Dies führte auch dazu, dass der Meißel selbst in die Hieroglyphenschrift Eingang gefunden hat. (Robert Kuhn)
